The word ‘Kirtan’ literally means praise. Many Kirtans have a call-and-response style, where one person sings a line, and another repeats it back. Perfect for singing as a group. You don’t need to know the words or be a musician.
Kirtan songs are in Sanskrit, the ancient language of India. A tradition practiced by Yogis and Mystics throughout history because of the profound physical, emotional, and spiritual effects these ancient chants can bring. A familiar famous Western song, like The Hare Krishna Mantra released by George Harrison from “The Beatles” is a great example. Singing Kirtan, or even just listening to it, is a devotional practice, can bring deep bliss and joy into your heart.
The Band of Now is a concept, and perspective, rather than any specific ensemble. Prem Vidu invites all to share their voices together in devotion, and to co-create a sacred space for
healing, peace and joy to be cultivated! Jai Ma!
